Let Me Surprise You! most popular class Click quilt to see larger picture

Finally a class that you know you have brought the right things. In this fun-filled class, a kit of cut fabrics is furnished. This is a wonderful group workshop for those that just want to sew and not have too much cutting and thinking to do. A quilt will be designed for your group and will only be available to your group unless there are leftovers from class. Each student will be making the same quilt kit, but differences can happen within each student’s borders, sashing or settings. The kit is just for the top and does not include borders. (Although it really depends on the fabric and design as to what ends up in the kits.) Extra fabric is sometimes available for sale, but can be bought in quilt shops all over the nation since it is current fabric. The fabric is first quality. The kit prices range from $75 to $150. The larger price will yield the larger quilt. No one is ever disappointed, but this is a class for students with a wide range of color tolerance. A student stuck in a color group will not like this workshop. If a student is worried about color, pattern or design then they should not take this class. I will need at least 6 months advance notice when choosing this class. This is because the quilt will need to be planned, fabric ordered, made, cut and packaged before class.

Also I will need to know the maximum number of students allowed to take the class. The earlier I know the better. It is for intermediate and above level quilt makers. Beginners will be able to do this, but will have more difficulty finishing without guidance. It is up to each group to pick a price and up to me to fit the quilt to that price. This class is a sell out at many shows and is really the best of the best for students.

Fantastic Fans

This class is the one that started me thinking about faster ways of doing things. Although I had taken it off my class list I am bringing it back by popular demand. The templates for this fan are available in class. There is a simple way of doing everything and this quilt is the most simple with the most wonderful results. Fabrics that are difficult to use are made into beautiful fan quilts. Students at the beginner level will enjoy this class as well as the very advanced. The students will need a sewing machine that does a blind hem stitch as well as a straight stitch. This can be taught in a condensed version for a half day class for $350.
These are a Few of My Favorite Things

This class is full of information and teaches the way that I cut and design the kits that I use in other classes. I will show the tools that I use, the methods that I use and the way I make color come together. This is a combination of many classes that I have taken and things that I have learned over the years of quilt making. Certain patterns are easier than others and using basic units instead of an entire pattern you can create instead of just copy. This class is made for the intermediate and advanced level quilt maker interested in more creativity that is doable. The class is full of information, real quilts and real solutions to everyday problems in quilt making. This class can be a two day workshop and more sewing, shortcuts and design and color will be more in depth.

This class can be a fabric pack class. That means I will furnish the fabric for a charge of $35. [this is not a cut kit]

There is a hand out with this class that includes many patterns and guidelines to refer to once the class is over; there is a charge for this handout of $5.

Lots of quilts will be shown giving many ideas and possible future projects. A mystery project is started in the class along with the learning of the methods. There will be tools available for sale during the class. Students can use them before buying them. (Tools are not required to purchase so they are not asked to bring them to class.)

The Cure for the Common Quilt
This class is about color. Over the years most of my students notice the color of my quilts and want to understand what my methods are and how I get that ‘look’. This class will answer all those questions. We will work with cloth and not just the color wheel. I understand the color wheel and I know that the artist who drew the fabric understands the wheel as well, but while shopping for fabric it isn’t the most important thing to know. After this workshop the student should have a better understanding of color in fabric and how it works with other fabrics, value, intensity, relationships of colors and training the eye to see past a large print. It is made simple with simple terms. Mostly their level of confidence will be higher. There is no sewing in this class and in some groups this is preferred for the most to be able to attend. As in all the classes, quilts will be shown and color/design questions are encouraged.
Machine Quilting
Once the top is made it is time to quilt and most of us cannot keep up the pace of the piecing. Very simple methods will guide you to becoming a better quilter without a lot of stress and time. This class is a half-day workshop and comes with a fabric/batting kit for $400 plus the kit cost. The cost of each kit is $10. The class can be a whole day and more advanced quilting will be shown. The kit for that will be $15. Each student will need a machine that is able to drop the feed dogs or cover them. They will also need a darning foot or quilting foot for their machine and know how to attach it. This is not a walking foot.
Lectures

Why aren’t you making more quilts? I know you have the fabric!

Hello, my name is Charlotte and I am a quilt maker. Learn the 12 steps of fabric collection

Why do we make quilts? The question you ask 100 times during the ‘fun’ of making that really awful quilt.

Each of the lectures is given in a humorous way. It lets the group know that they are not alone in their collections of fabric, methods of hiding the fabric and wonderful ways to use the fabric. In each of the lectures there will be quilts. No slides are shown. The quilts can be touched and they can be photographed. Questions are welcomed during the lecture. I know that there are people who can’t attend classes or workshops and have questions so this isn’t a problem. The format of the lectures is loose and open to change at any time.

~~~Cameras are welcome during the classes and the lectures. There are handouts for most of the classes. Sometimes there are fees for this. A supply list will be sent for each class once a contract has been signed. Most of the supplies are things we all have and no one will go without if they happen to think they brought the ‘wrong’ thing. The workshops and the lectures are light, humorous and full of information.
Since I travel so often I have found that it is much better for me to stay in a hotel close to the class/lecture location. Although this isn’t in stone I do prefer either a hotel or guest house.
Once a contract has been signed by both parties I will arrange flights. I will then contact the program/workshop chairperson or contact person and let them purchase the ticket in my name.
My hobby is quilt making and my job is teaching others to enjoy it as much as I do. If you have any questions about any of the information listed above please do not hesitate to call or email me. I am always close by.
